Olympic News 2008: MOBOTIX Secured Holland Heineken House
MOBOTIX network cameras secured the Holland Heineken House (HHH) during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing/PRC.
The HHH was thereby equipped with one of the most modern video surveillance solutions worldwide, consisting of high-resolution, intelligent cameras with integrated sensors. The Dutch security company Proseco had also recommended the Heineken brewery to use MOBOTIX products to secure the Heineken Experience beer museum and the Heineken Brandstores in Amsterdam. Besides the extraordinary technical advantages that MOBOTIX offers, the most important criteria for choosing MOBOTIX was, above all, the excellent cost effectiveness of this successful German company.
The Holland Heineken House is a facility that was especially constructed on the Olympic site with catering, stage, shops and entertainment to attract more than 3,000 visitors daily from all over the world. The initiative had existed since the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992 as a joint project of the Dutch sports organization NOC*NSF and Heineken. In August 2008, the HHH opened its doors in Beijing again for the Dutch athletes, their families, friends, fans, press representatives and other guests. This time, the Agricultural Exhibition Center in the embassy district of Beijing was the location for the HHH.
The video surveillance of the HHH during the Olympic Games in Beijing consisted of about 25 cameras, each with 3.1 megapixel resolution, that were delivered by the Dutch MOBOTIX distributor CNI Europe from Dordrecht to the responsible Heineken installation partner. CNI Europe had already supported this partner with the design and configuration of the entire system in the Netherlands.
Engineer Henk Schotman, MOBOTIX BeNeLux Business Development Manager explained, "we are pleased that Proseco has chosen us for the video surveillance of the Holland Heineken House in Beijing. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the many advantages of our high-resolution image quality in the spotlight. Of course, Mobotix already has previous experience with large sports events, such as the video surveillance of the Fritz-Walter stadium in Kaiserslautern during the Soccer World Cup 2006 event."
Mr. Job Groenendijk, CPO RSE, Security Consultant Technoprevention of Proseco: "After exhaustive testing, we found out that the MOBOTIX cameras fulfill our requirements and wishes in the best way. The decisive criteria were the high image quality, the integrated sensors and the extensive range of functions of the cameras. Depending on the situation, it is important for us to record permanently or event-controlled based on movement, infrared signal or certain noise or light conditions. All this is possible with MOBOTIX cameras without using external, additional devices or expensive accessories. Moreover, the cameras are extremely robust, of high quality and maintenance-free."

It is a new, upgraded version of the successful Fluidmesh 2200 series of wireless mesh routers which operate on multiple frequencies. The Duo unveils some major new features and innovations and, effective September 15, 2008, will replace the original Fluidmesh 2200.
The Duo edition introduces some new hardware and software features; Integrators and end users alike will appreciate the advantages of a 3X faster main processor and increased switching and routing capabilities by multiple times.
The Fluidmesh 2200 Duo will come with an external LED to facilitate the troubleshooting of the system. In addition, the Duo will feature two auto-sensing Ethernet ports, eliminating the need for Ethernet cross-over cables. Cross-over or a patch cables work fine with the new Fluidmesh 2200 Duo.
Another feature of the Duo will be the support for 128 bit AES Encryption at the link-level which is now possible using a hardware-based encryption system that does not introduce any loss in terms of performance. To enable Hardware-based AES Encryption, a software plug-in is required.
Together with the Fluidmesh 2200 Duo, Fluidmesh is releasing the new Easy Mesh firmware based on a revolutionary concept in the wireless industry – The new firmware is compatible with the existing Fluidmesh 2200 and will also serve as the default software for the new 2200 Duo hardware. It’s represents a quantum leap in terms of ease of use compared to any competing wireless product and finally allows wireless mesh to go mainstream. The EasyMesh firmware includes three main components: MeshSwitchTM, FMQuadroTM Web-based Interactive User Interface, and SNMP V. 3 Support.
The MeshSwitch Technology makes the entire network as easy to configure as a simple network switch. The new Layer 2 Addressing Mode allows each camera, encoder, Fluidmesh unit and other networking devices to have an IP address belonging to the same class, therefore minimizing the time required for network planning. At the same time, the advanced users can still select the Layer 3 Addressing Mode in case they need to create a network with different subnets.

Arlington Park Protects the Ponies with Brivo ACS
Legendary racetrack deploys Brivo ACS WebService™
Brivo Systems, LLC, the leader in Web applications for access control and security systems, has announced that Arlington Park Racetrack, located in suburban Chicago, utilizes Brivo ACS WebService to secure all nonpublic areas within the grandstand and the highly restricted stables area.
Internationally acclaimed as one of racing’s most beautiful settings, Arlington Park boasts hundreds of thousands of visitors to its clubhouse and grounds during racing season. Park management chose Brivo Access Control Systems (ACS) to manage access to secured areas of the grandstand and the backstretch, a highly secure and regulated area, where more than 2,100 horses are stabled. The grandstand’s 18 door access readers are connected directly to the Park’s network, while the two backstretch gates are connected and controlled wirelessly. All access can be managed with any standard Web browser from any computer, located anywhere with Internet access.
“Brivo was the only Web-enabled system that also offered wireless,” said Chris Martin, Arlington Park Director of Public Safety and Security. “Our former system required a dedicated PC and internal IT support. We were looking to upgrade to a system that offered wireless connectivity, greater flexibility, a means to reduce IT dependency, and improved ease of use. The wireless option was paramount because we wanted to expand access control to cover the stables in the backstretch, but trenching would have been a prohibitive expense. We have both wired and wireless with Brivo on one system.”
Martin and his staff take advantage of Brivo’s ease of creating and managing multiple groups having different access privileges, both of which change throughout the year. One other Brivo feature Martin has used to great advantage is email and cell phone notification. “During racing season, we have a lot of staff here and it’s often a changing population. On any given day, if I need to omit access or see a certain individual, I establish a notification and when that person arrives I know where and when to get a hold of him—that’s a great feature.”

OnSSI IP Video Management Solution Helps Secure Super Bowl XLII
To help better control and manage its city-wide wireless video surveillance system during Super Bowl XLII, the Phoenix Police Department relied on an IP video management solution from OnSSI. The OnSSI solution controls and manages over three dozen video surveillance cameras in and around downtown Phoenix
The advanced video system installed in Phoenix provides the Police Department with ability to remotely monitor and track activities across the city. Video feeds from almost 40 cameras are transmitted to two police command centers via a wireless mesh from Firetide Inc. The system also includes rapid deployable cameras supplied by IPVision, Inc., a systems integrator headquartered in Tucson, AZ. All the cameras are monitored by specially trained operators using OnSSI’s IP video control and management solution. “Our video surveillance network has proven effective in our major investigations and now has become a quick security solution for major events,” states Detective Chris Jensen, the technical surveillance systems administrator for the Phoenix Police Department. “It has been very adaptable to many types of law enforcement activities.”
The Phoenix Police Department implemented the advanced video surveillance solution in 2006 to support covert operations during a serial crime spree, and has used it for numerous investigations and event management since, including Super Bowl XLII. “The distributed architecture of the OnSSI IP video management solution enhanced the Phoenix Police Department’s rapid deployment systems and ability to cover all of the events surrounding the Super Bowl,” comments Ben Green, Vice President of Business Development at IPVision. “This provided extreme flexibility as it allowed the OnSSI solution to seamlessly connect to the various systems already deployed, enabling centralized control and monitoring of all operations,” he adds.
Video from all cameras is recorded and delivered to users using OnSSI’s IP video management solution. The OnSSI solution enables instant access to video from any camera, which can be routed or automatically pushed on-event to any video wall monitor or networked PC. The system eliminates the need for a matrix switcher and allows full utilization of high resolution IP cameras with digital PTZ on both live and recorded images. OnSSI’s user intuitive touch-screen interface employs dynamic maps for fast and easy navigation allowing efficient monitoring of the entire camera system via one system operator at each location. The system’s ease of operation expedited the training process, effectively reducing manpower and operational costs.
In addition, OnSSI’s IP video management solution incorporates video content analytics to detect policy driven situations such as motion in restricted areas, loitering, overcrowding in public places, and more. The system also seamlessly integrates with access control and physical security systems allowing alarms and programmed events to be jointly managed.
